Jennifer Barrett

At the age of 6, Jennifer competed at her first barrel racing event. Even before this ripe old age, she began her 29 year dedication to the sport she so dearly loves, barrel racing.

Growing up under the watchful eye of her mother, Darlene, she learned the ins and outs of this demanding sport. Her Mom as coach was one of the pioneer barrel racers of the Northeast, so Jennifer had a great hand to learn from. Darlene was the Permit Champion in 1977 of the Eastern Chapter of the WPRA. She was a multiple finalist in the First Frontier Circuit and the American Professional Rodeo Association. Darlene is still competing on a weekly basis. The coach and the student are now often competitors.

Jennifer understood at a young age that it takes dedication and great horsemanship to ride and train barrel racing horses. In addition to this, she added English and Western showing to her resume. She was an active member of 4-H, showing at many local events. This was a test of great discipline in the arena where she learned arena etiquette and patience. Now 20 years later, this education and discipline has proved to be a great asset to her equestrian skills as she now joins her husband, Dusty, in the show ring competing on their young horses in the Versatility Ranch Horse Arena.

With many years in the rodeo arena and the show ring, each day still continues to be a learning experience. This is a great challenge that she feels makes her grow as a person and a horseman.
